LEWISTON – Congressman Mike Michaud and state Rep. Elaine Makas recently visited Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care’s Early Head Start Center.

While there, Michaud and Makas played with the 16 children, ages 6 weeks to 3, enrolled in the program. Following a tea party, Michaud and Makas played race cars, blocks and dolls.

Estelle Rubinstein, executive director of Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care, said, “It was a pleasure to have Congressman Michaud and Rep. Makas visit our Early Head Start Center. Our child care staff are passionate about the continuity of care given to the children and families in their program, and it was wonderful for them to be able to share what they do with the people who make the decisions regarding our state and federal funding. I’m sure having a tea party is very different than what they are used to in both Washington and Augusta.”

Rubinstein said, “This past week, members of Congress from both sides of the aisle came together to significantly strengthen this program. Congress voted to reauthorize Head Start and Early Head Start programs, increasing funding and expanding access to tens of thousands of children across the United States. Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care would like to thank Congressman Michaud for his continued support of Head Start programs.”

Applications for all Head Start programs are accepted at any time. Most are free to eligible children. Call 795-4040 for more information or visit www.androkids.com. Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care is a United Way funded and Lewiston and Auburn CDBG supported agency.
