RUMFORD – The Oxford County Democrats will hold their annual holiday supper at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Eagles Hall.

The old-fashioned beef stew and biscuit supper will be accompanied by a potluck dessert buffet. Tickets at the door are $5. The occasion will celebrate the recent successful special election of Sheryl Briggs of Mexico to the Maine House of Representatives.

Following the supper there will be a brief county committee meeting.

Planning for the Democratic Party caucuses is in full swing. Meetings will be held for all towns in the county between 1 and 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10. Regional caucuses will be held in the Rumford and Bethel areas, with other towns opting for meetings locally.

County Chairwoman Cathy Newell is coordinating lining up convenors for all towns and is being assisted by Vice Chairman Roy Gedat in the Oxford Hills area; Treasurer Mike Broderick and Rep. Tim Carter, greater Bethel area; and Rep. John Patrick, Sen. Bruce Bryant and Rep.-elect Sheryl Briggs, River Valley area. Newell is organizing southern Oxford County, assisted by Marlee Turner and Doug Bowen.

Anyone interested in taking an active role in preparing for the caucus may contact a committee member. Caucus training for convenors will occur in January.

“The excitement over the presidential race, and in Tom Allen’s Senate bid, has produced a great deal of interest in our caucus process, and we expect a good attendance throughout the county,” Newell stated.

Oxford County Democrats have been taking advantage of the frequent visits to New Hampshire’s North Country by presidential contenders. The Oxford County Democrats e-newsletter alerts recipients to the various appearances once notification is received from counterparts in Carroll and Coos counties.

Anyone wishing to be added to the e-newsletter list may contact Newell at [email protected]. The newsletter also features a photo album and on-line contribution links.
