FREEPORT – The Maine Assembly on School-Based Health care says “Thank You!” to champions who are helping to improve children’s success by keeping them healthy, in school and ready to learn.

Champions for the health of Maine children were recognized at the fall meeting of the Maine Assembly on School-Based Health Care on Nov. 9 at the Hilton Garden Inn. The champions included Victoria Kuhn of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, the Oxford Hills School-Based Health Centers and the following Maine Legislators: Rep. Glenn Cumming, Speaker of the Maine House, Rep. Charlie Harlow, Sen. Peggy Rotundo, Rep. Margaret Craven, Rep. Sawin Millet, Rep. Pat Flood, Sen. Kevin Raye, Rep. Anne Perry, Sen. Walter Gooley, Sen. Lois Snowe Mello, Rep. Rick Burns and Rep. Anne Haskell.

Kuhn received the Presidents Award.

The Program Award was presented to the Oxford Hills School-Based Health Centers for their outstanding work to engage young people and community members in advocating for public policy to support Maine’s school-based health centers.

Through their work they inspired children’s health advocates from around Maine to help Maine legislators understand and support school-based health care in Maine as a way to keep Maine children health, in school and ready to learn.

The school-based health care champions of the Maine Legislature showed courage, leadership and creativity in supporting an increase in funding for this mechanism to deliver quality health care where the students are, in school.
