LEWISTON – The General Federation of Women’s Clubs/Maine Federation of Women’s Clubs joined for a fall conference in Lewiston on Oct. 18 and 19 to create blankets for Project Linus.
Project Linus is a 100 percent volunteer nonprofit organization that provides security through blankets to seriously ill or traumatized children. It is one of many volunteer projects that the GFWC/Maine Federation of Women’s Clubs does to help build, serve, improve and enjoy the communities in which members live.
The group was organized in 1892, admitted to the General Federation of Women’s Clubs in 1894 and became incorporated in 1912. Maine Women’s Clubs have been doing volunteer service for more than 115 years. Currently there are 28 clubs statewide and approximately 850 members in five districts.
