LEWISTON – The Lewiston Demons hockey team opened their season with a pairof wins and is the early leader in the Northern Middle School Hockey League.

Lewiston downed Waterville, 3-2, in its opener. It was a hard-fought battle, with Lewiston goalie Brady Ouellette thwarting Waterville’s comeback attempts late in the third period.

Devin Bilodeau started the scoring with an unassisted tally in the first period. Lewiston then got a pair of goals from David Cusson in the third, with assists from Kevin Lavertu, Chris Rancourt and Cam Boucher. Strong defense by Rudy Pandora and Coleman Morency helped preserve the victory.

Lewiston also took out Tripp Middle School, 5-1. The Demons jumped out to a 3-1 lead early in the second period in front of a large hometown crowd at Ingersoll Arena.

Kile Conn scored a goal off a beautiful deflection of a hard Brett Vallee blast. Marisa Zamrock picked up a nice rebound goal, assisted by Nick Gilbert and Marty Moreau.

Boucher set up Alex Gregoire with the final tally late in the game.

Other goals came off the sticks of Cusson and Bilodeau, with the assists going to Jacob Bergeron and Nick Gilbert. Brady Ouellette and Noah Hutchinson did outstanding work between the pipes, splitting the goaltending duties for the Demons.

Lewiston returns to the ice Dec. 2.
