Issue: Selectmen’s candidate Stephen Wood requested a recount after he lost a close race to incumbent Paul Loesberg. The recount was held after the board meeting, with Chairman William Henshaw, Vice Chairman Mark Duquette and Selectman Guy Desjardins presiding.

The scoop: While state Rep. Scott Lansley read the ballots, Amedeo Lauria kept count for Wood and Town Clerk Suzanne Adams tallied for Loesberg. The recount confirmed Loesberg’s victory with 318 votes to Wood’s 313.

Firehouse heat

Issue: A departmental budget examination revealed unusually high heating costs at the Fire Department’s Central Station. Board members suggested an energy audit be performed at the firehouse to determine how to reduce energy costs.

Up next: The audit, estimated to cost $500, will be discussed during the next board meeting on Dec. 4.

Bar owner wants to help

Issue: Mike Yohe, the owner of Mixer’s bar, told selectmen he is interested in holding fundraising events at the lounge to benefit nonprofit town organizations, such as the Fire Association.

The scoop: Board members said they appreciated Yohe’s intentions but worried about conflicts of interest since the town is responsible for deciding upon the bar’s liquor license. They instead advised Yohe to seek nongovernmental organizations, such as food pantries or establishing a fund for a privately-owned town library.

The scoop: Gordon Strout unanimously was approved for the Recreational Development Committee.

Up next: Before the annual municipal budget review process can begin, the Budget Committee needs three more members to meet its minimum. Residents Stephen MacDonald and Mark Fournier are being considered for appointment to the Budget Committee; however, since neither was present during the meeting, board members tabled the appointment until the Dec. 4 meeting in order to confirm the pair’s interest.
