RUMFORD – The SAD 43 board, along with members of the Regional Planning Committee from SAD 43, will learn about the district school consolidation plan when they meet at 6:30 tonight at Mountain Valley High School.

Superintendent Jim Hodgkin said a preliminary plan was submitted to the state Department of Education in time to meet the Dec. 1 deadline stating that SAD 43 would be working with SAD 21 in Dixfield and SAD 39 in Buckfield to form a school system.

Although the SAD 43 board members are aware of the potential members for the proposed system, Monday’s board meeting will be the first time the change from the original school partners will be explained.

SAD 43 began working with SADs 21, 44 and Union 37. Because of geography and other factors, the Rumford-based district decided to make changes to the list of potential partners.

Hodgkin said Regional Planning Committee meetings and subcommittee meetings will likely begin again in January. The SAD 39 board is expected to act on the partnership at its board meeting Wednesday. SAD 21 already has.

Also tonight, the SAD 43 board will enter into a closed session to evaluate Hodgkin. His contract and salary will be acted on at the board’s Dec. 17 meeting.

Other agenda items include reports from school health coordinator Kathy Sutton and Mountain Valley Middle School Principal Ryan Casey.
