Holiday cantata

RUMFORD – The Rumford First Baptist Church invites the public to a Christmas cantata at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the church, corner of Plymouth Avenue and Washington Street.

The West Area Community Choir, under the direction of Ron Blake, will perform “The Love of God at Christmas.”

The cantata will be free, with donations accepted to defray the cost of music. Refreshments will follow the concert. For more information, call 369-0703.

Advent retreat

RUMFORD – An Advent Day Retreat will be sponsored by the Daughters of Isabella from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, given by Sr. Sylvia Genesse of Marie Joseph Spiritual Center. The cost is $10. Bring a bag lunch. Registration forms will be in back of each worship site or call Doris at 364-8509. If school is canceled, so is the retreat.

Quilters to meet

RUMFORD – Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at the Rumford United Methodist Church, Linnell Street. A pillow-making demonstration is planned as well as a tasting party. Members are asked to take bite-size goodies to share with at least 25 people. Part three of the mystery quilt will be distributed. Show and tell is welcome. For more information, call 562-7050.
