LEWISTON – Dog owners can save money and keep their pets safe by registering them before year’s end, according City Clerk Kathy Montejo.

State law requires dog owners to register their pets and show a current rabies certificate by Jan. 1. The licenses normally cost $11 for male and female dogs or $6 for spayed and neutered animals. Dogs registered after Jan. 1 can incur late fees, however.

Owners should bring proof of rabies immunization as well as proof that the animal has been spayed or neutered.

Lewiston residents can register their dogs at the Lewiston City Hall, 27 Pine St. Auburn residents can register their pets at the Auburn City Clerk’s office in Auburn Hall.
