LEWISTON – Work on a new master plan for Lewiston’s downtown will continue this weekend with a public forum.
The Downtown Neighborhood Task Force will host a meeting for residents, business owners and other interested organizations from noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Lewiston Public Library.
Members of the Downtown Neighborhood Task Force began working this summer. The group met with downtown residents, business owners, the Chamber of Commerce, landlords and non-profits in a series of forums.
The group will write a master development plan for the city, especially designed for business and residential downtown. That will look at all factors of downtown life, taking information from residents, landlords, city officials and advocacy groups.
The group will also devise ways to encourage new growth, new housing and boost the area’s spirit.
Councilors created the group in October 2006 with nine members. They designed the group to include one member named by Empower Lewiston and one from the Visible Community. The remaining seven were selected at large, and were named by Mayor Larry Gilbert this spring.
