Special gifts

PORTLAND – The Maine Association of Nonprofits Web site, www.nonprofitmaine.org, is featuring a special section called “Gifts That Give Twice,” in which approximately 40 association members have posted products, services and memberships for sale as holiday fundraisers.

There is a wide range of products and services available, as well as information about gift membership and donation programs.

Wellness van

LEWISTON – The Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute Wellness Van will visit the Mexico Wal-Mart from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19. There will be no stop in August as listed previously. Advance appointments are not necessary. Anyone interested in more information about the van services should call 795-8240 or e-mail [email protected].

Steam train rides

BOOTHBAY – The Boothbay Railway Village will offer free steam train rides from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15. The rides last about 15 minutes and the train will run approximately every hour.

Dippers wanted

OLD ORCHARD – Dippers are wanted to jump into the icy waters of the Atlantic to raise money for Special Olympics Maine on New Year’s Day. The 20th annual Lobster Dip is Maine’s original dip in to the ocean.

Dippers are asked to raise a minimum of $100 to take part in the icy event at noon Jan. 1 in front of the Brunswick Hotel at Old Orchard Beach. Costumes are welcome.

All dippers will be able to attend a post-dip New Year’s Day bash at the Brunswick. It will include lobster stew, several live bands, television sets to watch the big game and hot showers.

All proceeds go directly to Special Olympics Maine. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Brunswick. Call Special Olympics Maine for a registration packet at 879-0489 or download forms from www.specialolympicsmaine.org.
