Call Box 26, located on Congress Street, is one of many throughout Rumford that received a reprieve at last week’s selectmen’s meeting. The board voted 3-2 to keep the fire alarm devices for another six months, at which time their use will be re-evaluated. Members of the Rumford Fire Department argued that the call box system adds another level of protection for Rumford residents, while some selectmen questioned spending about $1,000 annually when they are rarely used.
