The report about Maine’s policy of giving a driver’s license to people of unknown origin who do not live in the state of Maine should be in the spotlight. I thank the Sun Journal for shedding some light on it.

It is absolutely inconceivable to me that the state does not understand the implications of that irresponsible policy. In a time when there are very real threats of terrorism in this country, the state is giving individuals, about whom it knows nothing, a form of official identification. And it is a valid form of identification at airports, no less.

It would be ridiculous, were it not so sad.
