Middle school students continue holiday tradition

PARIS – Every Oxford Hills Middle School student has decorated grocery bags with holiday cutouts and poems.

The tradition began in 2001 and this year is being coordinated by Cheryl Lang and Jen Iggulden, both language arts teachers at the school.

The first year, 125 decorated bags were delivered to Hannaford.

This year more than 500 bags will be brought to the store, ready to pack groceries in on Saturday, Dec. 22. Residents can ask to have their groceries packed in a decorated bag.

It is a way for the students to say “Thank you and Happy Holidays” to the Oxford Hills community.

Maureen Howard, director of the Oxford Hills Community Education Exchange, coordinates the annual program.
