LEWISTON – Disney’s “High School Musical in Concert” is scheduled for four performances on the Lewiston Middle School stage Dec. 28-30. It’s like a second chance for everyone who missed the fully-staged production by Lewiston-Auburn Community Little Theatre in July. That show sold out before opening night this past July – a first in the organization’s 68-year history.

Director Richard Martin said this concert version brings back the original lead performers and dancers. “It will be no less exciting” than the staged musical, and it will feature a couple of new songs from “Disney’s High School Musical II,” Martin said.

He emphasized that the concert version of this show retains “the non-stop energetic dancing and singing” of the staged version.

Reprising their roles in “Disney’s High School Musical in Concert” are Colin Whiteman and James Kramlich as Troy and Chad of the jocks; Katherine Demarest and Molly Keane-Dreyer as Gabriella and Taylor of the brainiacs; and Kylie Keene and Michael Weber as Sharpay and Ryan of the performing arts students.

Principal songs include “We’re All in This Together,” “What I’ve Been Looking For,” and “Get’cha Head in the Game.” In some cases, songs that were performed as duets in the original show will be presented by the six lead characters in the concert version. Martin said the concert version has “plenty of movement all over the place.”

The plot about two rival high school cliques is easily followed in the lyrics, Martin explained, noting that Michael Weber’s character of Ryan takes on “a kind of emcee role” in this concert presentation.

Also new to this production is a partnership with the Lewiston High School system to include several students from LHS’ Center Stage or choral groups to perform alongside the original cast of CLT’s “High School Musical.” These students are Shauni Morrison, Jess Lemay, Clarissa Smith, Juwelene Parro, Karleigh Eccles, Logan Lessard, Christopher Murch and Hannah Rodgrigue.

Playing the other jocks are Brett DeLawter, Carl Zurhorst, William Kramlich, Spencer Emerson, Andrew Jackson and Chris Hodgkin.

The brianiacs are Brittany Martin, Molly Cloutier, Alex Jackman, Leslie Reed, Brittney White and Amanda Martin.

The performing arts students are Lindsay Carbonneau, Caleb Perry, Sarah Carbonneau and Natasha Johnson.

Skater dudes are Shonah Russell, Pablo Barajas, Suzie Assam and Patrick Caldwell. Cheerleaders are H’Netter DeTroy, Alex Perry, Brianna Chu, Audrey Martin and Karen Kumaki. Sara Spellman is Kelsi. Martin said costumes will again highlight the red and white colors of Troy and Gabriella’s East High.

Rebecca Poppke is vocal director and Lacey Moyse is choreographer.

The production crew consists of Karen Mayo, producer; Paula Masselli, props mistress; Doreen Traynor, costume designer; Jacob Chaloux, sound; Katy Bouchard, stage manager, assisted by Lindsay Nadeau; and Rachel Morin, publicist. Martin is also light designer.

Performances of “Disney’s High School Musical in Concert” are at Lewiston Middle School Auditorium, Central Avenue, Lewiston, at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 28-29 and matinees at 2 p.m. on Dec. 29-30. Tickets are $15 and may be reserved by calling the Community Little Theatre box office at 783-0958 or accessing the Web site at www.laclt.com.
