AUBURN – New Auburn American Legion Post 153 Boy Scouts were among the collectors and packers who took part in the “Iraq Express” project at the post. The boys who had collected at Edward Little High School, Washburn and East Auburn schools met at the post ad helped pack the items, which filled about 114 boxes.
Two soldiers from Fort Bragg, N.Y., made the trip here to help and, when all was packed, they were placed in a large U-haul truck, which was transported back to Fort Bragg, loaded in a military transport plane and taken to Iraq.
It is one of the projects the troop does every year for veterans. They also visit nursing homes and send Christmas cards.
Other projects include training, hiking, camping and first aid. They also do other community work for which they receive recognition. Boys ages 11 to 18 years are welcome to join. If interested, call Scoutmaster Ronald Poulin at 784-2875 or Scout Representative Raymond Lemieux at 784-0656.
