ANDOVER – An Andover man accused by police of committing a felony sex crime more than a year ago against a boy under the age of 12 remains free on bail.

Oxford County Sheriff’s Lt. Hart Daley on Monday arrested Wilbur R. Hansen, 53, of South Main Street, and charged him with unlawful sexual contact and sexual misconduct with a child under the age of 12.

Hansen was taken to Oxford County Jail in Paris. A bail commissioner released him the same day on $50,000 surety bail on the charge of unlawful sexual contact, and on $500 cash bail on the second charge.

Daley said Thursday that Hansen is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 6 in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris. But according to a clerk’s assistant at the court, that date could change pending indictment by an Oxford County grand jury.

Hansen was ordered to have no contact with the victim or anyone not yet 16 years old; stay away from the victim’s home and school; and not possess sexually explicit materials.

Hansen, his vehicles and his home are subject to search at any time to verify compliance, according to conditions of his release.

Hansen was unavailable for comment Thursday and has not hired a lawyer, according to a woman who answered the phone at his house.

Daley declined to talk in specifics about the case, but said he received the complaint on Dec. 13. The incident for which Daley charged Hansen occurred about a year and a half ago.

While there is a statute of limitations under certain circumstances, Maine’s sex crimes law changed in 1996 and 1999, Daley said.

“For any crime committed after 1999 involving a sex assault and involving children, there is no statute of limitations,” he said.

Daley said Hansen has no outstanding convictions and no previous sex-crimes record.
