With 2008 fast approaching, two ski resorts are planning a celebration on the slopes.

At Sunday River Ski Resort in Newry, several parties will be held to usher in the new year. Farther south, Shawnee Peak in Bridgton will have festivities.

The Summit and Jordan Grand Hotels at Sunday River will host two separate events Monday night featuring dinner specials and live entertainment. At the Summit Hotel, Legends will hold a four-course dinner from 5 to 11 p.m., while the Grand Ballroom will feature a family-style buffet with a DJ from 6 to 10 p.m. Reservations are required for both events.

At the Jordan Grand Hotel, Sliders will have dinner specials from 5 to 11 p.m. and live entertainment from the band Porkchop from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Grand Avenue will be open for dinner from 6 p.m. to midnight, and reservations are required.

Each hotel will also feature a dance for younger guests. At the Summit Hotel, a chemical-free party for those 18 and under will take place from 9 p.m. to midnight. The Jordan Grand Hotel will hold a party for children 7-14 from 7 p.m. to midnight. Reservations are required.

The Foggy Goggle will hold a 21-and-older event from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. and feature the music of the band Side Show. Reservations are required. A package is also available combining the Legends dinner with the Foggy Goggle entertainment.

The Shipyard Brewhaus will also feature live entertainment. The band Lovewhip takes the stage at 9 p.m.

At Shawnee Peak, a Monday special will be in place from 4 to 9 p.m. Children ages 5 and under may ski free with a paying adult.

From 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Blizzard’s pub will feature dinner specials and the music of Bill Cameron. The event has a cover charge, and tables for four or more people may be reserved in advance. The show becomes 21-plus after 9 p.m.
