Stitchers sew quilts for nursing homes
JAY – The Country Square Quilters of North Jay/Wilton have been making lap quilts for residents of area nursing homes.
In the early 1990s, a relative of Rowena Presby was a resident of a local nursing home, and she thought residents might appreciate a touch of warmth and home; thus the lap quilt project began. It is a tradition that the Country Square Quilters have carried on ever since. This year they made 37 quilts to be donated to nursing home residents. Most of the quilts were made from squares that had been cut and given to the group by an anonymous donor earlier in the year.
Other projects that the Country Square Quilters have undertaken include making wall hangings and various decorations for the Jay-Niles Public Library.
This year the lap quilts were presented to Pinecrest Haven, Orchard Park Rehab and Living Center in Farmington and Victorian Villa in Canton.
