BANGOR (AP) – A Maine man accused of shooting his wife as she hid under the bed has been formally charged with murder.

A grand jury returned an indictment Monday against 34-year-old Jeremy Hart of LaGrange, who’s charged in the death of 25-year-old Kristen Smart Hart. Hart, who’s is being held without bail at Penobscot County Jail, is due to be arraigned on Jan. 25.

The incident unfolded on Nov. 29 at the Harts’ home. Another man told investigators he’d been “kissing” and “fondling” Kristen Hart when Jeremy Hart entered the darkened room. Police say Hart initially denied firing a gun, but later acknowledged firing several shots.

Detectives arrested Hart after they traced the trajectory of five bullets that converged near the foot of the bed where Hart believed his wife to be.
