PARIS – A 46-year-old Brownfield woman was sentenced to a year in prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to a drug charge.

Kathleen Nionakis of Hampshire Road in Brownfield pleaded guilty to Class B unlawful trafficking in cocaine and forfeited $1,246 in cash seized during a raid. Two additional trafficking charges were dropped.

Oxford County Superior Court Justice Robert E. Crowley sentenced Nionakis to serve one year of a four-year sentence as well as three years of probation. She is also required to pay a $400 fine, not use or possess illegal drugs, and take part in substance abuse counseling.

Nionakis was arrested last summer in connection with drug busts in the southern part of Oxford County undertaken by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Fryeburg Police Department and Oxford County Sheriff’s Office after a three-month investigation.

According to Assistant District Attorney David Fisher, agents seized 88 grams of cocaine, scales, and the money at Nionakis’ residence. Fisher said Nionakis was cooperative with law enforcement and admitted selling drugs.

Fisher said Nionakis has prior convictions of larceny and forgery from Massachusetts in 1987 as well as a shoplifting charge in Maine from 2003. He said a misdemeanor case in Bridgton District Court involving Nionakis will be dismissed.
