Club discussion

AUBURN – The Auburn-Lewiston Art and Literature Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the Woman’s Literary Union.

The program will be a discussion of author Harriet Beecher Stowe with highlights of the book that made her famous, “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” Facilitators will be Marguerite Powers and Helen Archambault.

Hostesses will be Phyllis Splain, Phyllis Mixer, Toni Ramsey and Dorothy Bentley.

Film to air

LEWISTON – A new Randy Travis film, “The Wager,” will be shown at 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at the First Assembly of God Church, 70 Hogan Road.

Seniors to ‘bag’ it

AUBURN – The First Auburn Senior Citizens will meet Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Hasty Community Center at Pettengill Park. The monthly board meeting will be at 10 a.m. and the regular meeting will start at 11 a.m.

Meal tickets will be on sale for the Valentine party to be held Wednesday, Feb. 20, for $4. A special dessert of ice cream sundaes will be available. The monthly raffle will be held and the program will be bingo.

Due to the storm cancellation of the Jan. 2 meeting, there will be no spaghetti dinner. Members are asked to take their lunch as usual.

Placement tests

LEWISTON – St. Dominic Regional High School will hold a placement test sitting for the Class of 2012 on Saturday, Jan. 19.

It is the last sitting for ninth-graders before the Jan. 25 regular application deadline. The results of the test help St. Dom’s to assess individual academic needs and place students where they can achieve success.

The exam will be held from 8 to 11 a.m., and the exam fee of $15 is due upon the day of the exam. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m.

Seniors speaker

LEWISTON – Anne Moreau will be the featured speaker at the Holy Cross Seniors meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at the church hall.

A registered nurse for more than 30 years, Moreau is working for Boulet Steele Chiropractic office as a nutrition assistant and with Univera Life Sciences. The topic of her presentation will be “Nutrition and Healthy Aging,” providing the tools to help people set up the body to regenerate healthier cells and to age better naturally.

All seniors of the area 50 years and over are invited. A social will follow and a light lunch will be served.

Church meeting

HEBRON – Trustees of the Hebron Community Baptist Church have announced the 217th annual meeting of the church to take place following the worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, in the sanctuary. Reports by Pastor Meredith Dalessandro and various committees will be read and new and old business transacted. Afterward there will be a potluck luncheon in the dining room. Bridge winners

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Jan. 8 were: first, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; second, Jan Arey and Linda Leotsakos; third, Nancy Lindgren and Les Buzzell; fourth, Martine Begert and Jeanine Kivus; first in B, Helen Little and Claire Lyons.

Winners at Schooner Estates on Jan. 9 were: first, Martine Begert and Patricia Garcia; second, Malcolm Burson and Paul Mitnik; third, Jean and Phil Bird; fourth, Paul Barber and Luke Merry.
