Club honors scholarship winners
FARMINGTON – The January meeting of Farmington Emblem Club 460 began with a supper honoring the club’s area high school scholarship winners. Also present for visitation was State Emblem Club President Barbara Wyman and her marshal, Dorothy Cardelli of Brunswick.
Two of the five scholarship winners were present, along with members of their families. Attending were Alexis Alexander, granddaughter of club member, Peggy Alexander, and Erica Webster, granddaughter of club member, Robin Bragg.
Scholarship Chairwoman Jean Corcoran, introduced each and asked them to speak about their college choice and what they are studying.
The scholarship winners unable to attend were Kurt Phillips, who is attending Nascar Technical Institute in Florida; Justin Eustis, attending Unity College; and Devon Ferran, attending the University of Massachusetts.
The meeting began at 7 p.m with 30 members present, 59 absent and two guests. Americanism Chairwoman Kamilla Hall read a story, and Community Service Chairwoman Lois Barker reminded members to be thinking of a deserving person to be voted as Citizen of the Year.
Shannon Smith spoke about the Valentine Dance sponsored by the club on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Farmington Elks Lodge. It will begin with a meal prepared by members of the club, followed with dancing to a band, The Legends. Smith has tickets for sale for $25 a couple.
Corcoran will have an Avon sale in March, with the earnings to go into the scholarship fund. A donation will be made to Special Olympics. The 50-50 raffle was won by Renee Target, and the mystery gift by Bethany Storer.
