Open house

NEW GLOUCESTER – Creative New Gloucester will hold a reception/open house at the New Gloucester Public Library from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16. The public is invited to learn about the importance of the creative economy and connect with artists and others. Refreshments will be served. The event is free.

Kennel club

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Kennel Club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the home of Arnold Woolf, 198 Russell St.

Members are requested to attend the meeting as there are several major items on the agenda, including filling of two vacancies and an update of several clinics and the club’s championship show this fall.

Lodge to install

AUBURN – Tranquil Lodge 29, AF and AM, will hold installation of officers for 2008 at the Masonic Hall at 1021 Turner St. at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19. Family members and friends are welcome to the semi-public ceremony, following which there will be a reception in the dining hall downstairs.

Society speaker

POLAND – The Poland Historical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Old Schoolhouse in the Town Office Complex on Route 26. Speaker will be Charles Anthony of Durham.

Anthony is a Revolutionary War re-enactor and will speak on the subject of styles of men’s clothing during the Revolutionary War period. Anthony is a tailor and makes the clothes he wears as a re-enactor. His talk will include a style show featuring some of his creations.

Refreshments will follow the talk. The public is invited to attend the meetings.

Young at Heart

AUBURN – The Young at Heart Fellowship will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the Court Street Baptist Church. The business meeting will be followed by Alice Piper leading in devotions.

There will be a potluck luncheon at noon. Members should bring a place setting, article for the door prize and the potluck item they volunteered. The program will be sharing crafts and hobbies. Those interested in participating in the time of sharing should contact the group in order to provide sufficient table space. All seniors are invited.

Herbal sessions

NEW GLOUCESTER – Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village is again offering an eight-week run of internships in the village’s herb gardens. The internships will begin in June and go until the end of July.

The program is made up of work days and program days where interns learn about culinary uses of herbs, ornaments and sachets. For free printed details about the internships that are open, contact the Shaker Village at 926-4597 or [email protected].

Seek musicians

LEWISTON – Wisdom’s Center is looking for men and women to join a small group of musicians who play music for fun and relaxation. They play show tunes, folk tunes and old-time songs. They meet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Wisdom’s Center off Blake Street. For more information, call Maureen at 784-0155.
