Tourney results

MEXICO – The Moontide Water Festival Committee held its third Texas Hold’em Tournament to raise money for the 4th of July Fireworks. First place went to Elijah White of Carthage, $1,225; second, Vernon Davis of Bethel, $600; third, Rod Lord of Chesterville, $300; and fourth, Don Cummings of Mexico, $200.

There was a low turn out of 31 players and the committee lost $345 on its license fee. The committee takes out a license for 100 players and has to pay the state $500 up front.

There will be one more tournament on Feb. 2 limited to 100 people, but if turnout is low, the committee may reduce the license to 80.

Ed Shurtleff said, “It took a long time to get the state to pass a law that would allow the citizens to have poker tournaments, but it is up to the poker players to attend in order to make it work.”
