LEWISTION – Mystery for Hire will hit a milestone at Marco’s Restaurant Saturday, Jan. 26. It will be the theater troupe’s 400th murder-mystery performance.

“We’ve been doing mystery shows since 1995,” said Dan Marois, who with his wife, Denise, own and operate Mystery for Hire, which will mark the occasion with its popular political farce “Politics Can Be Murder.”

“We like to say that we’ve committed 400 crimes and have never done time,” said Marois. “We started out in what used to be No Tomatoes Restaurant and we’ve always had extra fun performing for Lewiston/Auburn audiences.”

Quite timely, “Politics Can Be Murder” pokes fun at the political campaign season and includes an improvised debate that results from questions posed by the audience.

At mystery shows, audience members are encouraged to take notes as they watch a mystery unfold. When a crime takes place, they become amateur detectives who try to figure out whodunit. At the end of the evening, the person who most correctly guesses who committed the crime is proclaimed “super sleuth” of the evening.

Unlike a more formal show where actors perform on a stage, murder-mystery dinner theater is performed among guests throughout the entire dining room and between courses of the meal.

Doors will open at 6:15 p.m., with the show starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $36.95 per person, which includes the mystery show, full buffet, tax and gratuity.

On Feb. 23, Mystery for Hire will present the murder-mystery “Zelda & Zoe’s Spirits of Suspicion,” followed by “Death With Father” on March 15, “Lights! Camera! Murder!” on April 12 and “Marriage Can Be Murder” on May 3.
