CANTON – Voters rejected all four articles on a village project in a referendum Tuesday.

Acceptance of sewer and water line grants was rejected 140 to 124. Giving the town authority to take out loans for the other portion of installing the sewer and water lines was rejected 140 to 118, and 148 to 118.

In all, 265 voters turned out.

It was the final vote on the so-called Village Ridge project.

Administrative Assistant Kathy Hutchins said, “A lot of work has been put into the project by Diane Ray and others. It’s very sad.”

She also said that it was wonderful to see so many people come out to vote and hoped the trend would continue.

Project Coordinator Ray was out of the state and could not be reached for comment.
