Rebekahs to meet

AUBURN – Liberty Rebekah Lodge 94 will meet Monday, Jan. 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the Grand lodge office meeting room at 80 Caron Lane for a social gathering.

At 7 p.m., during the regular meeting, there will a collection to benefit the Ellen F. Washburn Nurses Training Award program. The state Odd Fellows and Rebekahs sponsor the awards granted to high school seniors and college undergraduates to attend an accredited Maine institution and pursue a registered nursing degree.

To apply for an award, an application form may be acquired from Joyce Young, 131 Queen Street Ext., Gorham, ME 04038 or telephone 839-4723. The deadline to apply is April 15. The award is paid upon the successful completion of the first semester of education. Students may reapply each of their four years of school.

Anniversary service

LEWISTON – A prayer to end abortion will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Holy Cross Church, Lisbon Street, chapel entrance, Baird Avenue.

The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed throughout the service, with recitation of the rosary and a time for meditation.

Tuesday, Jan. 22, is the 35th anniversary of the Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion.

Dance classes

LEWISTON – Irish set dancing classes will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays, starting Jan. 21, at St. Patrick’s Church Hall, corner of Blake and Walnut streets. No experience is necessary. Cost is $3 a class. For more information, call 933-9761.

Bridge winners

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Jan. 15 were: first, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer; second, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; third, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner.

Winners at Schooner Estates in Auburn on Jan. 16 were: first, Claire Lyons and Anna Vitiello; second, Luke Merry and Paul Barber; third, Martine Begert and David Lock.
