LEWISTON – The Euclide Gilbert French Language Foundation will hold its annual contest at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the Heritage Hall at the Franco-American Heritage Center, formerly St. Mary’s Church, Oxford Street. In case of a major snowstorm, the exam will be held the following day at 3:30 p.m.
The contest is open to all U.S. citizens 16 years or older and residing in Maine on Jan 1, 2008. Those under age 19 on March 31 will compete in the junior category. Others will compete in the senior category.
One winner in each category will receive an all-expense-paid trip to represent Maine in the International Finals of La Dictee des Ameriques (www.dicteedesameriques.com) with contest winners from 26 countries.
Past winners have received scholarships for studies in France, books and computers. The examination consists of 50 multiple choice questions.
All candidates wishing to take the exam need to preregister by calling Ronald M. Couturier at 784-1434 prior to Jan. 28.
