LEWISTON – The Franco-American Heritage Center, 46 Cedar St., will host a Rencontre at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1. People are encouraged to speak only French at the monthly gathering.
The meal will be chicken pot pies, rolls, dessert and beverage. Approximately 250 people attend the event every month and everyone is welcome.
Immediately after the meal, a musical program will take place with a new group appearing at the center for the first time. Ti’ Acadie is a dance band and folk trio from Maine, part of the region including the Canadian maritime provinces known as Acadie (Ti’ Acadie means “a little Acadia”).
The group is at home playing for concerts, contra dances or Cajun dances. Members are Pam Weeks, Jim Joseph and Bill Olson. They play a variety of music, including traditional French Canadian and New England dance tunes, Cajun waltzes, two steps, Cajun blues and Zydeco tunes.
For reservations call Claudette at 786-6936 or the center at 783-1585.
