MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – The Lewiston Jr. Maineiacs squirt travel team reached the championship game of the Challenge Cup before falling 5-3 to East Haven, Conn.

Lewiston earned three wins and a tie to reach the final, beginning with a decisive 5-1 verdict over New Haven and a 4-1 triumph over Bangor.

West Haven battled the Jr. Maineiacs to a 4-4 tie before Lewiston eked out a 1-0 win over Taunton. Sam Zashut registered the shutout to put his team into the title round.

For the weekend, Cody Woodward led the attack with four goals. Jacob Charest and Reid Pomerleau added three apiece, with Charest chalking up a pair of assists and Pomerleau setting up a single goal. Kyle Ullrich and Cooper Richard added two tallies each, with Ullrich notching one assist.

Kyle Morin, Luc Dostie and Evan Emerson each picked up a goal. Ryley Austin produced a team-high three assists, with Morin dishing two and Dostie and Kiana Melvin producing one apiece.

Kyle Welsh also performed splendidly in goal throughout the tournament.
