HARRISON – The applications for a town manager are in and under review.

Michael Thorne, who said he has held the position for 21 years, announced his resignation last fall.

“I just felt that it was time to move on,” he said. Thorne will retire July 1.

Selectman Daniel Schorr said Wednesday was the deadline for applications. The Maine Municipal Association is reviewing approximately 20 of them, and a representative from the organization will meet with selectmen Feb. 12 to make recommendations for interviews.

Schorr said no restrictions have been placed on the job qualifications.

“There may be someone out there who this will be their first job, but they’ll be outstanding at it,” he said. “We wanted to see all the resumes.”

Schorr said how long it will take to choose a successor depends on how many interviews take place. He hoped that a new manager will be selected by the end of April or early May, so they can work with Thorne before his retirement.
