AUBURN – The Graphic Arts/Printing Technology (GAT) program at Central Maine Community College recently completed the upgrading of its digital imaging lab and studio areas and the development of two new course offerings.
The new hardware includes 17 iMac 20-inch LCD computers; three Epson scanners; three Sony DVD camcorders, tripods and lighting. New state-of-the-art software includes Apple’s OS X Leopard operating system driving Adobe’s Creative Suite 3, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Bridge, Dreamweaver and Flash. The newly-developed courses are in digital photography/imaging and new media.
The GAT program offers students the option of earning a certificate or an associate of applied science degree.
An intensive group of foundation courses introduces the total production process from design and desktop publishing, through press work and bindery operations.
The program prepares students for a broad range of employment opportunities available in the printing industry. A significant number of graduates are working in one of the many commercial graphics companies located throughout Maine.
The new equipment and courses will enable the college to keep pace with the changing world of graphics arts and printing technologies.
