• LISBON FALLS – Again the matter of a town celebration in 1908 is being agitated. This year is the 100th anniversary of the organization of the town in its present state. While no definite plans have been made it has been discussed to have just a quiet celebration, not elaborate.

50 years ago, 1958

Lewiston Ward Six Alderman Paul A. Couture declared last night that the Public Works Department made “a big mistake” in having several autos towed away the other night during snow removal operations, claimed such tactics could have been avoided, and that motor vehicle owners should have been taken into consideration. Couture said about 15 cars were towed away last week and that many of them were owned by people employed in the mills. Some had to go out and borrow the money necessary to pay the towing charges to get their vehicles back, while other’s had to spend most of their night’s earnings to get their cars back, he said.

25 years ago, 1983

• Androscoggin County Jail has been filled beyond capacity for more than two months, according to Sheriff Joseph P. Laliberte, who has been transferring female and juvenile prisoners to other jails to make room. The jail, which has a 33-bed capacity, is housing about 45 inmates, and the overnight population reached as high as 54 two weeks ago.

• Kodak has announced three new negative color films that will be of interest to amateur and professions alike. The three new films, which incorporate their ISO or film speed number in their names are: Kodacolor VR 100, 200, and 400. All the new films utilize a new flat tablet or T-grain technology.
