OXFORD – The students at the Boxberry School are studying energy for their learning expedition, and they have been busy with scientific experiments. They have scientific magician Mike Murphy of West Paris visiting on Monday afternoons.

Murphy engages the students in scientific play and asks many open-ended questions about the processes.

Kids have done experiments on gravity and force, as well as chain reactions thus far. They have also set up many experiments, including a marble challenge and others having to do with simple machines, i.e. inclined plane, pulley and wheel and axle.

Soon their experiments will shift to follow interests in biology and cycles of growing as they begin to prepare for the planting season, which will include learning about the process of growing and taking care of a vegetable garden at Carter’s Farm in Oxford.
