Community lunch

FARMINGTON – A community luncheon will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church, Academy Street. The meals are offered at no charge, and all are welcome. The menu will include homebaked beans and hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, biscuits and pineapple cake. For more information, call the church at 778-2163 or Dot Bryant at 778-4608.

Gospel program

FARMINGTON – The Bob Jones University Sacred Sounds music team will present special programs at 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at the New Hope Baptist Church, 268 Perham St. They will offer hymns and gospel songs, instrumentals and testimonies. All are welcome.

Blacksmith meet

WILTON – The Western Maine Blacksmith’s Association will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at the Wilton Historical Society. The February meeting was canceled due to weather, and that program, on the tempering and heat treating of steel, will be presented.

The “open forge nights” will be March 11 and 21. Visitors are welcome. For more information, call Bill Reid at 778-2325.

Sled dog race

OQUOSSOC -The Western Mountain Sled Dog Race will take place Saturday, Feb. 23, beginning and ending in Oquossoc.

The trail is about 40 miles and winds out of Oquossoc through the Cupsuptic Campground, across Route 16, entering the woods for a long loop, then back through the campground to the finish line in Oquossoc.

Other events are planned during the time the racers are on the trail. A family snowmobile ride, a snowshoe race and sled dog rides will be available. An awards ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Gingerbread House.

Turkey supper

DIXFIELD – The Congregational Church was recently given three turkeys and will give them back to the community in the form of a turkey supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m.or until the food is gone on Saturday, March 1.

There is no set charge but donations will be accepted to replenish the mission fund. The church is handicapped accessible via the newly renovated driveway and ramp in the rear of the building.
