LEWISTON – Lewiston Adult Education has announced several unique enrichment classes kicking off next week:
“Child Safety Seminar for Parents, Caregivers, and Advocates” will explore questions of how to make children more resilient to bullying and provide tips, exercises and activities to increase children’s safety skills. The class will meet from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26.
“Everything You Weren’t Told about Identity Theft” will cover the less-known but prevalent issues surrounding identity theft today. Residents may attend the one-night class from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25, March 26 or April 16.
“Introduction to Chinese,” a six-week class on Mandarin Chinese language and culture, will begin Tuesday, Feb. 26.
“Dream Journey” will teach students techniques to better recall, understand and interpret dreams. The three-week class will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, Feb. 26.
“Catch Your Breath,” taught by local author and Registered Nurse Mary Callahan, will provide tips and techniques that can be used to manage symptoms of COPD, emphysema and smoker’s lung. The class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26.
“Understanding Mortgage Loans,” taught by Andrea Harvey, vice president at TD Banknorth, will meet from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27.
“Herbs for Menopausal Zest” will introduce herbal remedies to help relieve hot flashes, maintain strong bones and provide a good night’s sleep. The class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28.
Also beginning will be Lewiston Adult Education’s all-new fitness initiative, “March into March!” On Monday, Feb. 25, at 5:30 p.m. instruction will be provided in walking techniques, goal-setting and heart-rate monitoring.
Subsequently, Lewiston Adult Education will open a well lit, safe, indoor walking loop measuring at a little over 1/8th of a mile. Anyone may take advantage of the loop as frequently and for as long as they wish from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays at no cost. No registration is necessary for the program.
