BRUNSWICK – The Oratorio Chorale, under the direction of Peter Frewen, will offer an uplifting midwinter concert displaying the partnering of brass, winds and voices in the music of Anton Bruckner and Giovanni Gabrieli.

The concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at First Parish Church Brunswick and at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at Sacred Heart Church in Yarmouth.

Accompanied by the Maine Chamber Ensemble, the chorale will present the majestic “Mass in E minor” by Bruckner, a piece Frewen describes as “dark, expansive, tender – demonstrating both wind power and contrapuntal splendor.” Three joyous works by Gabrieli – “Jubilate Deo,” “In Ecclesiis” and “Hodie Christus Natus Est” – display antiphonal conversations between brass and voices.

Concert tickets are $15 in advance; $20 at door; students half-price; children under 12 admitted free. Tickets are available at Starbird Music and Longfellow Books in Portland; Books Etc. in Falmouth; Clayton’s in Yarmouth; Gulf of Maine Bookstore in Brunswick; Mason Street Mercantile and Magnolia’s in Bath; Treats in Wiscasset, and The Maine Coast Book Shop in Damariscotta. Tickets are also available from chorale members.
