PARIS – Students of the Month for February at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School are Derek Morin, freshman; Travis Berwanger, sophomore; Jessie Pierce, junior; and Dawn Mayberry, senior. This is the eighth year of the Rotary Club’s sponsorship of the program.
Each month, high school staff members nominate students who they feel have “made a difference in their classroom.”
The goal of the program is to reward teamwork, positive behavior, extra effort and good student citizenship. The program is coordinated through the Oxford Hills Community Education Exchange and is part of the character education curriculum at the high school. Maureen Howard, director of the Education Exchange, coordinates the program.
The four students were commended for their positive attitudes, respect for teachers and other students and as dedicated volunteers in community service projects.
The students’ names and photos are placed on a plaque that hangs in the hallway across from the school library. Each month the four students have lunch with the principal and on Feb. 20 they were honored at a Rotary breakfast. In addition, each student received their own plaque.
