LEWISTON – Pianist Chiharu Naruse of Hallowell, a much sought-after performer and teacher, will return to the Franco-American Heritage Center to perform Saturday, March 8. She will play compositions by Schubert, Debussy and Scriabin.

From her native Japan, Naruse went to Germany to study at the Hochschule Fur Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, where she earned a master’s degree in music performance and music instruction. She studied piano under Klaus Baessler and lied accompaniment under Wolfram Riegar. In 2002, she moved to the United States to study under Frank Glazer, artist-in-residence at Bates College.

She has performed throughout the world in solo recitals and piano competitions, and has done collaborations with other artists. Here in Maine, she has been featured soloist with the Augusta Symphony and has given recitals at Bates College, Gould Academy and the Ocean Park Music Festival. She presented last season’s Piano Series recital at the Franco center. She collaborates often in concerts with the Portland and the Daponte string quartets and with Glazer. She recently completed concert tours in France and Japan.

The March 8 concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors; students 21 and younger admitted free. For tickets, call 689-2000. The Franco center is at 46 Cedar St. For more information, log on to www.francoamericanheritage.org.
