Reception reset

BRIDGTON – Due to the snowstorm on March 1, the Bridgton Art Guild, has rescheduled the opening reception for the fifth annual student show to 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Gallery 302. The show corresponds with Youth Art Month, which is being celebrated nationally during March.

The show features a variety of art work from high school students in three districts: Lake Region High School, under the direction of art teacher Cindy Worcester; Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, under the direction of art teacher Ed Stevens; and Fryeburg Academy, under the direction of art teacher Greg Strom.

Two college students are also a part of the show. Jennifer Hall and Jessica Price are seniors in the art education program at USM, which is directed by Trudy Wilson.

The public is invited to attend the reception.

AARP meeting

PARIS – The Oxford Hills Chapter, AARP, will meet on Monday, March 10, at the First Congregational Church, East Main Street, South Paris. Lunch will be served at Reservations are required by calling Thelma at 743-6124 by noon Friday, March 7.

The menu will be oven-baked chicken and all the trimmings. Cost is $6.50. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a speaker, Ben Conant, local historian.

4-H contest

PARIS – Four-H members in Oxford County are invited to participate in a photo and art contest sponsored by the Youth Development Program of Oxford County Extension.

Contestants will be divided into age groups, with the top three earning first, second and third places. Divisions are 5- to 7-year-olds; 8- to 10-year-olds; 11- to 13-year-olds; and 14 and up.

Members may enter any number of finished art works or photos, which should be ready for display. Each entry needs too show a different skill, medium or technique.

Bridge results

NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Feb. 29 in the Fare Share Common, Main Street, with a three-table Howell movement played.

Finishing first in Flight A were Kathy and Pete Cummings; second, Barbara Beegel and Dick Allen; Flight B, first, Arlen Riis and Bob Clifford; second, Eleanor Griffin and Jim Dickens.

The club meets at 9:30 a.m. Fridays at the Fare Share Common. All bridge players are invited. A partner is guaranteed, and there is parking in the rear.

Day of prayer

PARIS – The Church Women United Program for World Day of Prayer, “God’s Wisdom Provides New Understanding,” will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, at the First Congregational Church Haskell Hose Chapel, South Paris. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Benefit supper

OXFORD – A benefit supper will be held for Stanley and Linda Carroll at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Grace Fellowship Church, 29 Poplar Ave. Menu will include corned beef, vegetables, rolls, drinks, brownies and ice cream. Smorgasbord set

PARIS – A smorgasbord public dinner will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the VFW Hall. Proceeds will benefit the Waterford World’s Fair. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children.

Family fest

WATERFORD – The Waterford Snow Packers Snowmobile Club will hold a family fun fest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Bear Pond next to Bear Mountain Inn, Route 35, South Waterford.
