HALLOWELL – The Lewiston Demons hockey team finished its regular season the same way it started, outplaying Winslow Middle School for an impressive 9-2 victory Sunday night.

David Cusson scored a hat trick for the Demons.

The Demons wrapped up the season with a second-place finish in the Northern Middle School Hockey League and will start the playoffs with a game against Skowhegan on Wednesday, March 12. Lewiston finished the year with an outstanding 9-2-1 record.

Cusson got the first of his three goals midway through the first period, unassisted. Before the end of the period, Alex Gregoire notched the first of his two goals off a nice feed from Kile Conn.

Winslow battled back, though, scoring two unanswered goals in the second period to tie the game. That deadlock didn’t last long, because the Demons blew the game wide open with four goals in the middle frame.

Scores went to Jacob Soucy assisted by Cusson; another goal by Gregoire. assisted by Nick Gilbert and Conn; a beautiful, unassisted, end-to-end rush by Rudy Pandora; and finally another unassisted goal by Cusson. The Demons’ defensive corps of Marty Moreau, Brett Vallee, Coleman Morency, Rudy Pandora and goaltender Brady Ouellette shut down Winslow the rest of the way.

In the third period, Soucy registered his second goal, unassisted. Then he assisted Cusson for the completion of the hat trick. Kevin Lavertu got the last goal of the night, knocking in a Cam Boucher shot. Chris Rancourt and Devin Bilodeau created many scoring chances for the Demons as well. The score could have been much higher if not for the outstanding goaltending by Winslow’s Miriah Farrell.
