MEXICO – The Mexico Public Library will host a “Think Spring” card making and stamping party on Thursday, April 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Calvin Lyons Hall at the Town Office. The evening will be led by Cindy Welch and Elyse Briggs. All proceeds will benefit the library.
There will be six projects with spring themes to work on and take home. Prior experience with card making and stamping isn’t required. The goal is just to have fun. Refreshments and beverages will be served.
The cost is $12 a person; supplies for the projects are included. To sign up and prepay, visit the Mexico Public Library at 134 Main St. any time between now and April 7. Samples of the projects will be on display in the library. For more information, call 364-3281.
‘Relay for Life planned in May
RUMFORD – The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Rumford, a fundraiser to support activities of the American Cancer Society, is just around the corner.
Former and current cancer patients, their families, businesses, civic organizations and the public are invited to take part in Relay For Life from 5 p.m. on May 30 until noon on May 31 at Hosmer Field.

Sewing classes in Mexico
MEXICO – Region 9 Learning Center will host two stitching classes starting this month.
“Dresden Plates,” a 10-week class for those interested in stitching variations on the traditional pattern, will begin on Thursday, March 6, at the Peru School. Classes will meet from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Cost is $39.
Anyone interested in learning how to sew, including creating fashions, can take a four-week course to learn how to use a sewing machine and pattern to create pajama pants or summer shorts. Classes will meet March 12, 19, 26 and April 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dirigo High School, Dixfield. Cost is $26.
Test your smarts at Rumford event
RUMFORD – The Sons of Italy will host an “Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader” night at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at Sons of Italy Hall at Smith Crossing.
Five contestants can test their skills and have an opportunity to win a $20 scratch ticket. Cost is $3 for adults; $1 for children 12 and under. Actual fifth graders will be available to help contestants.
