LEWISTON – Healthy Androscoggin’s Project Unite Committee is offering three more parent meetings about underage drinking prevention called “Find Out More, Do More” on Wednesday, March 12.
The sessions will be held at the Auburn Middle School cafeteria from 6:30 to 8 p.m.; Lisbon Community School cafetorium from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; and Poland Regional High School auditorium from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The first meeting took place in Lewiston in January and was well attended. After the presentation, the parents shared advice with each other about ways to work with their teens to keep them safe from the dangerous effects of underage drinking. The programs are free and open to the public.

Many parents think, “My child and I have a good relationship. He/she isn’t drinking, I would know.” However, recent survey results show that Maine parents vastly underestimate the likelihood that their own child is drinking.
In fact, while almost 58 percent of Maine students in grades eight through 12 reported they had tried alcohol, only 23 percent of parents believed their teen had ever engaged in that behavior. All teens are at risk of underage drinking and parent involvement is needed to address the issue.
