FREEPORT – Some of the biggest names in the world of fishing will be at L.L.Bean this weekend, March 15-16, for the annual Spring Fishing Expo. This event offers an extremely rare opportunity for the media and customers to interface and interact with these “Legends of Fishing.”

Stu Apte, Mark Sosin, Flip Pallot and Dave and Emily Whitlock will be present all weekend with book signings, panel discussions, a special reception and more to celebrate the first time this large fishing event has been held at L.L.Bean’s new Hunting & Fishing Store. Celebrity fly-tyers David Klausmeyer, Bob Popovics and Mike Martinek will also be present during the weekend.

Special Olympics hoop tourney

GORHAM – Special Olympics Maine announces its annual Southern Maine basketball tournament to be held Saturday, March 22 at Costello Fieldhouse in Gorham. This annual event will feature approximately 30 Special Olympics Maine basketball teams competing in 5-on-5 team competition as well as individual skills competitions.

The event begins at 9:30 a.m. and will run all day until 3 p.m. Awards will be presented throughout the day.

Winthrop ‘Y’ spring registrations

WINTHROP – Winthrop Area YMCA is holding youth Baseball/Softball and T-Ball registrations at the Winthrop Grade School gym lobby Sunday.
