When you pick up this book, you are taken into the world of Mary Madison, where everyday, she doesn’t know where she will sleep, and everyday she is doomed to dealing with her mother, who is a drug-addict and a prostitute. The only place she feels safe is at her Grandma Peggy’s house, but her mother will not let her stay. Mary ends up becoming a prostitute against her will, and suffering for many years. It seems like there is no way out, until she meets Nigel. Nigle lights the spark within Mary, by teaching her about the divine power of Jesus. He explains that no matter how far in you are, Jesus is always ready to save you.

This book really opened my eyes to the horrors that some people go through. It is very hard for me to fathom the magnitude of the problems that exist in her life. It also showed me that the power of Jesus can overcome any other power, no matter how strong. Karen Kingsbury’s novel is one that I will remember for a lifetime, and it was beautifully well-written. Not only was the writing superb, but it had a wonderful message. This book is a must-read for everyone.
