LEWISTON – The state champion Lewiston Junior Maineiacs Travel Tier II Squirt hockey team will vie for the regional title this weekend in Cranston, R.I.

Lewiston defeated Midcoast Junior Black Bears, 2-1, to win the state crown last month.

Team members are Sam Zashut, Kyle Welsh, Cooper Richard, Reid Pomerleau, Kiana Melvin, Jonathan Sturgis, Cody Woodward, Evan Emerson, Mikaela Brown, Jacob Charest, Ben Steele, Ryley Austin, Kyle Ullrich, Jean-Luc Dostie, Kyle Morin, Jed Drapeau and Trevor Lachance.

Dave Steele is the head coach. He is assisted by Tony Austin, John Charest and Keith Pomerleau.

Maine will compete in the National Division at the regional along with Rhode Island, New York and the No. 1 Massachusetts squad. American Division play features No. 2 Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire.

Lewiston will face New York at 5 p.m. today. Their round robin continues Saturday with an 11 a.m. face-off against Massachusetts and a 5:40 p.m. contest with Rhode Island.

Semifinal games are scheduled for Sunday morning, beginning at 8 a.m., with the championship game at 3 p.m.
