Literacy Volunteers Program Coordinator Mary Schneckenburger and student Halima Salaha meet for a class at the B Street Community Center, Lewiston. Many immigrants are waiting for a tutor to help them acquire English reading, writing and conversational skills. Literacy Volunteers will offer a 12-hour literacy tutor training workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays, April 5 and 12. It will also offer a 90-minute training for those who would like to volunteer as English conversation partners. Registration is required.
