TURNER – The Turner Community Playground Committee purchased a new playground structure in December. Through the work of six Turner mothers, the elementary school principal, parent volunteers and local business supporters, the committee raised more than $40,000.

Tina Daigle, committee member in charge of grant writing, was instrumental in solidifying a matching funds grant from Game Time, a company specializing in new playground structures and systems.

Today the new playground sits in storage awaiting installation in the spring.

While the committee has reserved money in the playground account for installation, it needs to raise several thousand dollars to repair the basketball court area, purchase swings, complete the ground work and complete the finishing touches.

On Sunday, April 6, the committee will host the second annual Longaberger basket bingo at Boofy Quimby Memorial Hall, Route 219, North Turner. The cost is $20 for 20 games. The bingo hall doors will open at 11 a.m. and the games will begin at 1 p.m.

Blackout games and extra bingo game cards will be on sale at the event. There will also be a food concession stand with a variety of lunch items, desserts, drinks, and other snacks.

The committee is also accepting donations from businesses interested in sponsoring a basket or filling a basket with products. For more information on how to donate or reserve tickets to attend the bingo, call Lori Marschall at 224-8264 or Tina Nadeau at 225-5690.
