COLLEGE PARK, Md. – With only minimal help from her teammates, Chante Black ensured Duke another trip to the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament.

Black scored a career-high 26 points and had 13 rebounds, and the third-seeded Blue Devils never trailed in a 67-59 victory over Arizona State on Tuesday night.

Black, a 6-foot-5 junior, was 9-for-20 from the field and 8-for-10 at the line. She also had three blocks, two assists and two steals. Jasmine Thomas, with 11 points, was the only other Duke player to reach double figures.

The Blue Devils (25-9) will next face No. 2 seed Texas A&M on Sunday in the semifinal round of the Oklahoma City Regional. The Blue Devils have now won at least two games in 11 consecutive NCAA tournaments.

Briann January scored 17 points and Lauren Lacey 13 for Arizona State (22-11), which went 0-10 against ranked opponents this season. The Sun Devils were seeking to reach the round of 16 for the third time in four years.

Louisville 80, Kansas State 63

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – On its 12th try, Louisville finally made it out of the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Angel McCoughtry scored 24 and the Cardinals (26-9) beat Kansas State 80-63 Tuesday to advance to the regional semifinals.

Candyce Bingham added 12 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Cardinals, who have won 13 of their last 15 games. Louisville will play either Georgia or North Carolina in New Orleans. Chauntise Wright added 13 points.

Ashley Sweat had 16 points and reserve Kelsey Nelson added 12 to lead Kansas State (22-10).

The Big 12 regular-season champions were playing their second game without star Kimberly Dietz, who hurt her knee in the Wildcats’ loss to Iowa State in the Big 12 tournament. Nelson, a virtual unknown before the tournament, tried to fill the void: The junior, who scored 23 points all season, had 20 points off the bench to help the Wildcats beat Chattanooga in the first round.

Tennessee 78, Purdue 52

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Pat Summitt celebrated her 100th NCAA tournament win in typical fashion: a second-round blowout.

Two days after Summitt publicly challenged her team to play harder, the Lady Vols responded with a dominant defensive effort, crisp offense and a 78-52 rout of host Purdue on Tuesday night. The win not only sent top-seeded Tennessee to its annual regional semifinal appearance, but also made Summitt the first coach in Division I basketball history – men’s or women’s – to record 100 wins in the tournament.

Tennessee (32-2) will face either Oklahoma or Notre Dame on Sunday in the Oklahoma City regional semifinals.

For a while, it looked as if the Lady Vols (32-2) might even have a special commendation for Summitt: most lopsided second-round victory. But ninth-seeded Purdue (19-15) closed the 33-point gap in the final 10 minutes and avoided the indignity of breaking Summitt’s personal record in a 41-point victory over Rutgers in 1992.

Old Dominion 88, Virginia 85

NORFOLK, Va. – The littlest player made the biggest shot for Old Dominion. Then one of the tallest made sure it would be enough to win a thrilling game. Jazzmin Walters made a 3-pointer with 4.8 seconds left in overtime Tuesday night, and Tiffany Green blocked an attempt at a tying 3-pointer just before the buzzer, giving the Lady Monarchs an 88-85 victory over Virginia and a trip to the Greensboro Regional.

Fifth-seeded Old Dominion (31-4) fell behind 85-81 in overtime, but closed the game on a 7-0 run. Walters started it with a free throw, Jessica Canady added a three-point play with 1:25 to go, and the 5-foot-2 Walters made a shot from her hip just before the shot-clock buzzer to send the Lady Monarchs’ crowd into a frenzy.

Connecticut 89, Texas 55

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Inside and out, Maya Moore was too much for Texas.

Connecticut’s fabulous freshman scored 24 points and the Huskies shot a blistering 60 percent from the field to beat Texas 89-55 on Tuesday night in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The top-seeded Huskies advanced to the Greensboro Regional semifinals on Sunday against Old Dominion.

It’s the 15th straight season top-seeded UConn (34-1) has advanced to the regional semifinals. Renee Montgomery added 17 points and Tina Charles had 15 for the Huskies, who routed Cornell 89-47 in the opening round.

Maryland 76, Nebraska 64

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maybe Maryland will look like a No. 1 seed when it gets to the other side of the country. At least the Terrapins are still in the NCAA women’s tournament, no small feat for a team that’s often struggled to get this far. Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver had 19 points apiece, Crystal Langhorne had 18 points and 12 rebounds, and the Terrapins held off Nebraska 76-64 Tuesday night after blowing a 15-point lead.

Maryland (32-3) will next face fourth-seeded Vanderbilt (25-8) on Saturday in the semifinals of the Spokane Regional.

Notre Dame 79, Oklahoma 75

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Notre Dame’s Charel Allen saw the mismatch inside and didn’t hesitate.

The fearless 5-foot-11 guard drove repeatedly to the basket, and right into the heart of Oklahoma’s defense – 6-4 Courtney Paris and 6-3 Ashley Paris – Tuesday night. It was no contest. Allen scored a career-high 35 points and made all the big plays to rally Notre Dame from a late-seven point deficit as the fifth-seeded Irish beat fourth-seeded Oklahoma 79-75 in overtime Tuesday night.

No, it wasn’t exactly by design.
